Alex is a founding director of Firetrail

and the much better half of the Firetrail directors team. Since Firetrail's inception in 2012 she has been instrumental in creating the systems and processes necessary for the management of participants at large-scale race events. She also manages the German sales, marketing and website elements of a large online outdoor retailer.

Originally from Germany, Alex has been living in the North East of Scotland since 2002. She is a qualified translator and interpreter and worked in this trade before travelling South East Asia, South America and other corners of the world. Alex has translated books for several German publishing houses including Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag and has worked in administration departments at Bosch and Siemens.

She returned to full-time education at the University of Aberdeen in her late twenties. This endeavour resulted in gaining a husband, a First Class Honours degree in Cultural History, and (as an Arts and Humanities Research Council sponsored scholar) a distinction in her Masters MLitt in Modern Historical Studies.

Growing up in Germany Alex developed an early and lasting affinity with bicycles, and has later added climbing, mountaineering and horse riding to her hobbies. She is Mountain Leader trained and holds British Cycling Trail Cycle Leader and outdoor first aid qualifications.
